Biography

I grew up in New Zealand developing a passion for photography as a youngster. My professional career began at sixteen as a Press Photographer, learning the art of storytelling with images in the heat of the moment, always looking for an award winning frame.

I've now gained thirty years experience as a professional cinematographer after training in Australia and filming around the world. My work has won numerous awards internationally for feature films, commercials, music videos and documentaries.

I love my work, it means the world to me. I love the people we get to meet, pushing the boundaries of craft in cinematography and collaborating with crew who become like family.

My passion and commitment to quality work earned the honour of Australian Cinematographers Society (ACS) Accreditation in 2006. I jumped for joy that day! So much blood, sweat and tears, yet its always worth it.

‘Eclipse’ my debut short film as Director/Cinematographer shot on the streets of Mumbai won several awards, most notably an Australian Film Institute (AFI) Award for ‘Outstanding Achievement in Short Film Screen Craft (Cinematography)’ in 2007.

Despite this and other passion projects I'm most at home on set collaborating with a great director, responding in the moment, and working as a team to create visually compelling images that serve the story.

My work has played in film festivals internationally including Tribeca, Cannes, Toronto, Honolulu, Rhode Island, Palm Springs, Espression en Corto in Mexico, India, Sydney, Melbourne and New Zealand, plus exhibition screenings at MoMa in New York and Centre Pompidou in Paris.

I returned to New Zealand after living overseas for 20 years to breathe the crisp fresh air and make a passion project ‘Soul Places’, exploring our human connection to the beauty of nature in this gorgeous land, Aotearoa - Land of the long white cloud.

I'm now based in Auckland living with my partner Christine.
