I grew up in New Zealand developing a passion for photography as a young fella. My career began at sixteen as a Press Photographer, learning the art of storytelling with images in the heat of the moment, always looking for that magical moment.
My career spans twenty years as a professional cinematographer which began in Australia and progresses around the world. Films I've shot have won numerous awards internationally for feature's, commercials, music videos and documentaries.
I love this work, pushing the boundaries, especially in lighting, and collaborating with great crew who become like family.
I was honoured to earn Australian Cinematographers Society (ACS) Accreditation in 2006. So much energy, sweat and focus, its always worth it.
‘Eclipse’ my debut short film as Director/Cinematographer shot on the streets of Mumbai premiered at Tribeca in New York and won several awards, an AFI Award for ‘Outstanding Achievement in Short Film Screen Craft (Cinematography)’ in 2007 and ACS Gold for Best Cinematography were among the highlights.
I'm in my element on-set collaborating with a great director, responding in the moment, and working as a team to create visually compelling images that serve a great story.
My work has played in festivals internationally including Cannes, Toronto, Honolulu, Rhode Island, Palm Springs, Espression en Corto in Mexico, India, Sydney, Melbourne and New Zealand Internationals, plus exhibition screenings at MoMa in New York and the Pompidou Centre in Paris.
After living overseas for 20 years I returned to NZ to breathe crisp fresh air and make a passion project ‘Soul Places’, exploring our human connection to nature in this gorgeous land, Aotearoa.
I love meeting new people and great creative projects. Feel free to email or call anytime.
Until then, be well and be wild!
